Senior Joint Secretary of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, has accused Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami of engaging in hypocrisy throughout its history.
Rizvi made this remark while addressing a memorial meeting on the 23rd death anniversary of martyr Professor Abdul Wahid Mondal at Taherpur High School ground in Rajshahi`s Bagmara upazila around 5:30 PM on Wednesday.
He stated, "We never supported Jamaat. It was only due to BNP`s liberalism that they got the opportunity to engage in politics in Bangladesh. But this party has always indulged in hypocrisy. They have done nothing but hypocrisy."
Rizvi also questioned Jamaat`s stance, saying, "This is the same party that opened fire on students and the general public, killing them indiscriminately. And now Jamaat says they will forgive the Awami League. How can they forgive the blood of Abu Saeed and Mughdar?"
Addressing Jamaat directly, Rizvi said, "Sheikh Hasina sits in India without a passport or visa, speaks against our country, and spreads incitement. Now, India has become your friend! This is truly regrettable."
The memorial event was chaired by the President of Taherpur Municipality BNP, Abu Naeem Md. Samsur Rahman Mintoo. Special guests included Dr. Rafiqul Islam, the National Executive Committee`s Health Secretary of BNP, Shahin Shawkat, Rajshahi Division`s Organizational Secretary, Abu Saeed Chand, the district BNP Convener, Bishwanath Sarkar, the district BNP General Secretary, Ershad Ali Isha, Rajshahi City BNP`s Convener, and Mamunur Rashid, among others.
