A grand Eid celebration procession, organized by the Dhaka North City Corporation, took place in the capital with enthusiastic participation from people of all backgrounds.
The vibrant parade began on Monday morning (March 31) in front of the old trade fair ground in Agargaon. It moved through Agargaon`s main road, passed Khamarbari Mor, and concluded at the South Plaza of the Parliament building on Manik Mia Avenue.
The event showcased five elegantly decorated royal horses, 15 horse-drawn carriages, a live band, and traditional musical instruments. A special puppet show featuring historical scenes from the Sultanate and Mughal eras captivated the crowd, adding to the festive spirit. After the parade, participants were treated to semai (sweet vermicelli) and sweets, followed by a brief cultural program to conclude the celebration.
Many attendees expressed their delight, noting that such a grand Eid celebration had not been seen in the city for a long time. They hoped this tradition would continue annually to enhance the joy of Eid.
Some participants shared that they had only heard about such processions in the past but had never witnessed one. They emphasized the importance of reviving these cultural traditions through regular events.
Dhaka North City Corporation`s Administrator, Mohammad Ejaz, stated, "Our mission is to restore Dhaka’s lost traditions, and this Eid celebration procession is a step in that direction. We plan to make it even bigger in the future."
