BNP senior leader Mirza Abbas on Friday questioned the media`s reluctance to report on alleged financial dealings between political parties and business groups.
Speaking at an Iftar event hosted by the Dhaka Reporters` Unity (DRU), Abbas pointed out that certain political entities continue to receive substantial financial contributions from businesses.
"We often hear about donations of Tk 15 to 16 crore, sometimes even Tk 100 crore, being given to different parties. Why doesn’t the media address this?" he asked.
He emphasized the crucial role of journalists in uncovering and reporting such issues, urging them to uphold their responsibility with integrity.
"The power of your pen surpasses that of a sword. The information you present can either serve the nation or mislead it," Abbas remarked.
He called on the media to remain committed to professional ethics and ensure that the truth reaches the public.
During the same event, Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Shafiqur Rahman expressed sorrow over the recent tragic incident involving the rape and death of a minor girl in Magura.
Condemning the crime, he urged the nation to unite in demanding justice for the victim and called on the media to play a crucial role in highlighting such issues.
"This incident has deeply shaken the people of this country. May Allah guide us to stand against such atrocities and ensure justice," he stated.
Shafiqur stressed the importance of media vigilance in exposing social injustices and holding those responsible accountable.
