A case has been filed in Rajshahi’s Tanore upazila over an alleged rape of an 18-year-old college student inside a shop in Chanduria Bazar on Sunday afternoon.
The victim’s father lodged the case at Tanore Police Station on Monday night.
On Tuesday morning, the girl was sent for a medical examination at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital’s One-Stop Crisis Center (OCC).
The accused in the case are Iqbal Hossain, 28, from Deotala village in Chanduria Union, his father Ansar Ali, 65, and tea shop owner Abdul Malek, 60, from the same village. All three are currently absconding.
According to the case details, the student was on her way to her teacher’s house to collect study materials when Iqbal, a local grocery shop owner known to her, called her inside his shop. As soon as she entered, Abdul Malek, the tea shop owner, allegedly pulled down the shop’s shutter, trapping her inside. Iqbal then allegedly raped the girl inside the shop. Later in the evening, as the news of the incident spread, the girl was forced out of the shop. Iqbal’s father allegedly confronted the victim’s family and falsely accused her instead of addressing the crime.
Tanore Police Station officer-in-charge Afzal Hossain confirmed the incident, stating that a case has been registered and efforts are underway to arrest the accused.
Meanwhile, the victim has been sent for a medical examination as part of the ongoing investigation, he added.
