A 65-year-old man was beaten to death allegedly by his sibling over the ownership of a piece of land in Satkhira`s Shyamnagar upazila early Sunday.

The incident took place around 5:00 AM at Padmapukur Pakhimara Kheyaghat area in the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Kader Morol, a resident of the same area in the upazila.

According to locals, there had been a long standing dispute between Kader and his brother Mosharraf Morol over the ownership of a piece of land. An altercation was taken place between them over the issue. Mosharraf, at one stage, hit Kader with lethal weapons, leaving him seriously injured on the spot.

Other family members rescued him from the spot and took him to Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex for treatment where on-duty doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Being informed, a team of police recovered the body and sent it to Satkhira General Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination, said Shyamnagar Police Station officer-in-charge Humayun Kabir Molla.

Police were looking into the matter, the OC said, adding that legal action would be taken upon receiving complaint in this connection.
