The interim government will soon clear US$37 million in outstanding dues for liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports from Qatar, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said on Tuesday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Earthna Summit in Doha, Alam noted that the previous Sheikh Hasina administration had left hundreds of millions of dollars in unpaid LNG import bills.
“The interim government has already paid a large portion of the dues,” he said. “Only $37 million remains, and it will be cleared within a day or two.”
The remarks came following a meeting between Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, and Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, held earlier in the day.
Also present at the meeting were Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain, National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman, Energy Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, and Principal Coordinator on SDG Affairs Lamiya Morshed.
