A suspected Indian smuggler with a bullet wound was apprehended from a private hospital in Dhaka’s Moghbazar area on Monday, following a targeted operation by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The individual, identified as Sujon Barman, hailing from Bottoli village in Agartala, Tripura, reportedly entered Bangladesh on Sunday evening with assistance from a cross-border smuggling network, according to BGB sources.
Officials at BGB headquarters in Dhaka revealed that intelligence reports had indicated Sujon was wounded by gunfire and had crossed the border illegally with help from the syndicate. The injury prompted authorities to focus their search on medical facilities.
Following a surge in surveillance and field intelligence efforts, BGB personnel located and detained Sujon while he was receiving treatment at a Moghbazar hospital around midday on Monday, said BGB Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam.
The detainee was later transferred to the local police for further legal action.
BGB confirmed that coordination with other law enforcement agencies is ongoing to ensure appropriate legal procedures are followed.
