BNP, CPC rekindle ties in Dhaka after 15-year hiatus
  26, April, 2025, 11:42:18:PM

After a 15-year gap, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) held a significant meeting with a visiting delegation from the Communist Party of China (CPC) in Dhaka on Saturday, discussing their stance on Bangladesh’s electoral situation. The meeting commenced at 6:30 pm at the Westin Hotel.

Chinese Ambassador to Dhaka Yao Wen told reporters post-meeting, "The CPC met with the BNP, who shared their views on the election situation. We offered no advice." The eight-member CPC delegation was led by Chen Xuanbo, Deputy Director of the Southeast and South Asia Bureau.

The BNP delegation included Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, Chairperson’s Advisory Council member Ismail Zabiullah, Legal Affairs Secretary Barrister Kaiser Kamal, Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee member Humayun Kabir, Media Cell member Mahmuda Habiba, and Chairperson’s Private Secretary and former Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar.

Mirza Fakhrul told reporters, "We share a historic relationship with the CPC, dormant for the past 15 years. Today’s meeting has revived that bond, deepening mutual understanding. We expect this relationship to grow further."

He added, "China respects non-interference in other nations’ affairs. They inquired about Bangladesh’s political and electoral climate, and we briefed them accordingly. China supports stability, prosperity, and democracy in Bangladesh."
