Recruitment must be fully transparent: Adviser Asif
  26, April, 2025, 11:44:23:PM

Local Government, Youth, and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain emphasized the importance of transparency in recruitment processes at the ministry level, noting that personal connections should have no role in hiring decisions.

Speaking to reporters after visiting Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, where recruitment exams for the Rural Poverty Alleviation Foundation were being conducted, Asif said, "It is from the demand for merit-based recruitment that the mass uprising happened. Therefore, ensuring that no irregularities occur remains our highest priority. We want the recruitment process to be as transparent as possible."

When asked about his potential entry into politics, he acknowledged growing public expectations following his leadership during the July mass uprising but said it was too early to determine which political party he might join. He also clarified that he had no plans to align with any newly formed political party.

Addressing recent controversies surrounding the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) financial management, Asif explained that Bangladesh Bank’s stress testing had identified certain banks as high-risk with "red alert" status.

Transferring BCB funds away from those banks was a necessary move to safeguard assets, he said, though he added that a review would be conducted to ensure no internal procedures were violated during the transfer process.

Commenting on reports about the resignation of his Assistant Personal Secretary (APS), Asif rejected claims that the APS was removed. "The Ministry of Public Administration and our own documentation confirm that he resigned voluntarily, and the resignation was accepted. Resignation and removal are not the same, and it is unfortunate that the matter was misrepresented by some media outlets," he said.

He further alleged that external pressure had been applied on some media houses to spread misinformation, suggesting that a "media trial" was being orchestrated against him.

On the subject of asset declarations, Asif clarified that he had only recently obtained a Tax Identification Number (TIN), as he was previously a student.

He said he plans to file his income tax return next year and formally declare all assets after completing his current responsibilities, though he expressed his readiness to disclose them immediately if necessary.

Regarding the leasing of cattle markets in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas, Asif noted that many applicants failed to meet the required criteria, leading DNCC to lease the markets as khas (government-owned) land.

He urged the city corporation’s administrator to reconsider the decision to ensure government revenues from the markets are not adversely affected.
