A brilliant century from opener Zawad Abrar powered Bangladesh U-19 to a commanding 146-run victory over Sri Lanka U-19 on Friday, giving the visitors a 3–1 lead in the six-match youth ODI series.
Zawad, who had already scored an unbeaten 130 earlier in the series, continued his red-hot form with a 100 off 95 balls, reaching the milestone with a stylish flicked six in the 35th over. His 133-run stand with Rizan Hasan (82 off 77) laid the foundation for Bangladesh’s imposing total of 336 for 8 — their second-highest ever in Youth ODIs.
Late cameos from Samiun Bashir (23 off 8) and Al Fahad (19 off 5) added vital runs to boost the total.
In reply, Sri Lanka’s top order crumbled, with the hosts reduced to 36 for 4 early in the chase. Despite a fighting half-century from captain Bimath Dinsara, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 190 in 38.4 overs.
Bangladesh’s bowlers shared the spoils, with pacer Al Fahad claiming 3 for 41, while skipper Azizul Hakim and left-arm spinner Sanjid chipped in with two wickets apiece.
The emphatic win ensures Bangladesh U-19 cannot lose the series with two games still to play. Zawad now stands one century away from equaling Towhid Hridoy’s record of three hundreds in a bilateral youth ODI series for Bangladesh.
