The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has reported an overwhelming response to its revamped online income tax return submission platform, with over 1.6 million taxpayers filing electronically this year.
Officials attribute the success to ongoing efforts to simplify the digital filing process in response to user feedback, making it more accessible and user-friendly.
More than 2 million individuals have also registered for the e-return system, reflecting a sharp rise in interest in digital tax services.
The NBR has extended the availability of the online return filing portal beyond the traditional Income Tax Day, aiming to accommodate late filers and further streamline taxpayer compliance.
One notable feature of the system is the ability to amend submitted returns. Under Section 180(2) of the Income Tax Act 2023, taxpayers can revise their returns within 180 days of the initial submission if they detect any errors. So far, 7,225 revised returns have been submitted through the online platform.
Revenue officials have expressed their gratitude to those who embraced the digital system and urged all taxpayers to utilize the online services not only for filing returns but also for securing tax certificates and other related documents.
