We will return only after burying mujibism: Sarjis
  16, July, 2025, 8:01:43:PM

Following a violent attack on the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) rally in Gopalganj, the party’s northern regional chief organizer, Sarjis Alam, issued a bold and emotional statement vowing to continue the party’s ideological battle.

In a Facebook post released Tuesday afternoon, Sarjis declared, “If we survive, we will return only after burying Mujibism. If not, we won’t return at all.”

The statement came hours after NCP leaders were allegedly attacked by supporters of the ruling Awami League during the party’s pre-announced ‘March to Gopalganj’ program. Eyewitnesses and NCP officials claimed that law enforcement remained inactive during the assault.

Sarjis condemned both the attackers and the inaction of police forces, accusing them of enabling political violence.

“Pro-Hasina loyalists launched a coordinated attack. Police stood watching like spectators, refusing to intervene,” he wrote.

He also called for mass mobilization in response to the violence, “People across Bangladesh, come to Gopalganj. Let the students and conscious citizens of this district rise. Today is the day to bury those who serve oppression.”

The NCP has been vocal in its opposition to what it calls the "remnants of fascist rule" in Bangladesh, and the party claims the Gopalganj rally was part of a peaceful political program. The attack, however, has triggered condemnation and protests in various regions, including a highway blockade in Feni.

No official response has yet been issued by the Awami League or police regarding the accusations.
