The monsoon is currently active over Bangladesh, and under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in three divisions, according to a forecast by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
In a heavy rainfall warning issued on Thursday (July 31), the Met Office said that from 9 am Thursday to the next 24 hours, heavy (44–88 mm in 24 hours) to very heavy (over 88 mm and up to 188 mm in 24 hours) rainfall is likely in many areas of Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions due to the active southwest monsoon.
The warning further stated that, due to the possibility of very heavy rainfall, there is a risk of landslides in the hilly regions of Chattogram, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Bandarban, and Cox`s Bazar districts.
Additionally, temporary waterlogging may occur in some areas of the Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram metropolitan cities due to the heavy downpour.
