The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested popular social media personality Tawhid Afridi during a special operation at Banglabazar area in Barisal city on Sunday.
Spokesperson for the CID’s media wing Superintendent of Police Jasim Uddin confirmed the matter.
Tawhid Afridi has been named as the 11th accused in a murder case filed at Jatrabari Police Station in Dhaka during the anti-discrimination student movement in July of last year. He is currently being transported to Dhaka for further legal proceedings.
Tawhid’s father, Nasir Uddin Sathi—chairman of My TV—was previously arrested in connection with the same case by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) on August 17.
A total of 25 individuals have been formally named in the case, with approximately 150 others listed as unidentified accused. The primary accused is former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, followed by former Bridges Division Minister Obaidul Quader as the second accused, and former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdullah Al-Mamun as the third.
Tawhid Afridi gained widespread popularity among young audiences through his YouTube channel and social media content. Over the past few years, he has built a large following with his vlogs and travel-focused videos, establishing himself as one of the country’s prominent digital creators.
