Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB-47) has seized a large quantity of counterfeit cigarettes and hemp in a series of anti-smuggling operations in Kushtia district.
According to BGB sources, acting on a tip-off, a team of BGB officials conducted a drive on the main road of Bheramara Upazila and seized 4000 packets of illegal counterfeit cigarettes worth Tk 2.20 lakh.
In a separate operation, 25.5 kg of smuggled Indian hemp worth Tk 89000 were seized from Modoner Ghat in Ramkrishnapur BOP area on Thursday morning.
Additionally, 4 kg of hemp worth Tk 14000 were recovered during an operation in Thotarpara BOP area.
In total, the seized narcotics and smuggled goods from the three operations amount to approximately Tk 3.23 lakh.
The process of depositing the seized counterfeit cigarettes with customs and storing the narcotics at the battalion`s store for destruction is underway.
Kushtia BGB officials confirmed the incident and said that their strict operations to ensure border security and prevent drug smuggling will continue.
