| Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has collected a nomination form to contest the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election from the Dhaka-10 constituency.
He collected the nomination form from Dhanmondi Election Office at around 11:40 AM on Monday.
Earlier, on the evening of December 10, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan and Mahfuz Alam—two student representatives in the Advisory Council of the interim government—resigned from their posts following a meeting with Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus.
In Dhaka-10 constituency, which includes Dhanmondi, Kalabagan, New Market and Hazaribagh areas, BNP has nominated its Executive Committee member Sheikh Rabiul Alam.
The National Citizen Party (NCP) has not yet announced any candidate for the seat. Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami has nominated Supreme Court lawyer Jasim Uddin Sarkar, a member of the party’s central working committee.
Following the resignation of Asif Mahmud and Mahfuz from their advisory posts, there had been widespread speculation over which political party they might join.
Rumours ranged from joining the NCP in key positions to contesting as BNP alliance candidates under Gono Odhikar Parishad.
However, on December 12, Asif Mahmud clarified that he would contest the election as an independent candidate, without affiliation to any political party.
