Lakshmipur Correspondendent: Assailants attacked and vandalized the home of volunteer organizer Maesa Munara in Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila on 27 March, leaving her family in fear.

The incident occurred around midnight at Mammi Plaza in Atiyatoli village. Munara is an active member of the Nations Development Organization.

Family members said seven to eight attackers scaled the perimeter wall to enter the premises. The group set fire to the courtyard and struck the iron gate with sticks and sharp weapons while shouting slogans. They failed to enter the main building as the gate remained locked.

Munara’s younger brother, Umayr Ibn Mosleh Sennan, said the attackers shouted obscenities and issued death threats. Sennan called the police, but the group fled before officers arrived.

Speaking by phone, Munara blamed a fanatic group that has labeled her an "apostate" for her social work.

"Even though I am out of the country, they are attacking my family," she said. "They are living in extreme insecurity."

The Officer-in-Charge of Lakshmipur Sadar Police Station said officers inspected the spot and the situation remains stable. He added that police will take legal action once they receive a written complaint.

Munara works through her organization to teach children dance and music. She also campaigns against child marriage, sexual harassment, and drug abuse, while advocating for the rights of the transgender and LGBTQ+ communities.
