Bangladesh seeks US support to tackle fuel crisis
  1, April, 2026, 12:42:47:PM

Bangladesh has sought support from the United States to tackle growing challenges in its fuel sector amid ongoing disruptions in global supply chains and pressure on domestic fuel availability.

The request was made during a high-level meeting between Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and US Energy Secretary Chris Wright at the US Department of Energy in Washington, DC.

According to a statement issued by the Bangladesh Embassy in the United States, the meeting focused on enhancing bilateral relations and expanding long-term cooperation in the energy sector between the two countries.

During the discussion, the foreign minister highlighted the challenges Bangladesh is facing due to disruptions in global supply chains, which have impacted energy availability and stability. He stressed the need for international cooperation and sought US assistance to help ensure Bangladesh’s energy security and maintain steady fuel supplies.

In response, the US energy secretary acknowledged Bangladesh’s situation and expressed Washington’s willingness to support the country during this period. He said the issues raised by Bangladesh would be given due consideration and coordinated with relevant US agencies.

Emphasising the importance of ensuring a reliable and sustainable energy supply for Bangladesh in the long term, the two sides also discussed broader energy cooperation, including potential opportunities to increase imports of energy products from the United States.

Officials from both countries, including Bangladesh’s ambassador to the United States and senior representatives from the embassy, attended the meeting.
