UN reaffirms unchanged stance on Kashmir after US Envoy’s controversial statement
  28, August, 2026, 3:45:12:AM

Online Desk: The United Nations has once again made it clear that the world body’s position on the decades-old Kashmir dispute remains unchanged.
UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric while giving a regular briefing at UN Headquarters in New York declined to comment on a controversial statement by the United States Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, asserting that “I am not going to comment on what the ambassador said. Our position remains the same”.
The United Nations maintains that Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognized disputed territory and that the issue should be resolved peacefully through negotiations, in line with UN Security Council resolutions and the UN Charter.
Following Gor’s controversial remarks, Pakistan summoned the US top diplomat in Islamabad, Natalie Baker, to the Foreign Office and lodged a strong protest. Pakistan rejected the characterization of Jammu and Kashmir as part of India, calling the statement “factually incorrect”.
Islamabad has consistently maintained that the final disposition of Jammu and Kashmir must be decided by the people of Kashmir through a free and impartial plebiscite under UN Security Council resolutions.
