Police recovered the body of a missing child from the wardrobe of a neighbor`s house of the victim at Bhairab in Kishoreganj.

The incident took place on Tuesday (December 31) morning at house of one Dil Mohammad behind Balaka School adjacent to new road in Panchabati area of the town.

The dead child Sahal, 3, was the son of Sanaullah Babu, a Qatar expatriate from Kalikaprasad area of Bhairab upazila.

Police have arrested Hasan Mia, 38, a tenant of the house, hailed from Ashuganj area, in the incident. In addition, the mother of the victim child, Momena Begum, has been detained for questioning.

However, police and locals believe that the murder may have been the result of detained Hasan`s extramarital affair with the child`s mother.

According to police and locals, the child had been missing since Monday evening when the power went out at their house. Later, the child`s mother filed a GD with Bhairab Police Station.

After receiving complaint, the police, led by OC Shahin, searched the spot. At that time, they broke the lock of the neighboring tenant`s room and recovered the child`s body with scotch tape wrapped around his face inside the wardrobe in the house.

Bhairab Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahin Mia said, "We went to the spot after receiving a complaint that the child was missing. Based on some clues, we broke the lock of the neighboring tenant`s house and searched and found the child`s body in the wardrobe of his house. It is believed that the child`s mother Momena Begum is having an extramarital affair with the tenant Hasan Mia. Due to this, the child was held hostage and strangled to death. However, the real reason will be known after the investigation."
