Online Desk : Students from Prime Asia University clashed with police near the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday (January 7) during their "March to the Ministry of Education" programme.
The confrontation began around 2:30pm when a group of students attempted to enter the secretariat gate. Police intervened, leading to a chase and a subsequent clash.
The students were protesting for a set of nine demands, including the removal of the university`s Board of Trustees (BOT) and assurances of a permanent campus.
Following a pre-announced plan, they gathered in front of the secretariat to voice their demands. After protesting for some time, they attempted to enter the premises to meet the Education Adviser.
Tensions escalated when the protesters argued with the police, prompting a baton charge that led to a physical altercation.
Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Mansur said, "Prime Asia University students were creating chaos at the Secretariat gate and attempted to enter. The police stopped them, and after some time, they left."
No reports of injuries or further disturbances were immediately available following the incident.
