A man and his wife sustained burn injuries in an explosion caused by a gas cylinder leakage at Dhamrai upazila in Dhaka district.
The explosion took place on the ground floor of a three-story building at Kumrail area under the upazila around 11:45PM.
Injured Asif, 24, and his wife Shanta, 21, residents of Kumrail, are undergoing treatment at National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Locals reported that they heard a big bang from the ground floor of the building. Upon rushing out, they saw flames and attempted to extinguish the fire. Once the fire was put out, the couple was found severely burned. Then they were rescued and admitted to the hospital.
Confirming the incident, Dhamrai Fire Service leader Zahirul Islam said that the explosion was caused by a gas cylinder leakage.
Dhamrai Police Station sub-inspector (SI) Shamim said that initial findings suggest the explosion originated from a gas leakage.
