Two people, including a school student, were killed in a collision between a covered van and an easy bike in the Bichkini area of Biralpur municipal town in Biralpur upazila, Dinajpur.

The accident happened on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj highway on Monday afternoon (March 3).

The deceased have been identified as Iftekhar Rahman Sayem, 16, son of Anwar Hossain from Sonakani Andol village in Nawabganj upazila, and Nur Zaman, 35, the easy bike driver, son of Mujibur Rahman from Sakopara village in the same upazila. Sayem was a tenth-grade student at Biralpur Adarsh High School.

According to police and local sources, Iftekhar was returning home from coaching in Nur Alam`s easy bike, upon reaching the Bichkini area of Biralpur municipal town, the easy bike collided head-on with a covered van heading towards Dinajpur. Locals rescued them in critical condition and took them to Biralpur Upazila Health Complex where Iftekhar died while undergoing treatment there. Nur Zaman was transferred to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, where he later died.

Biralpur Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Majed Ali confirmed the matter.

He said that Iftekhar`s body was handed over to his family for burial as they had no complaints.

Nur Zaman`s body is at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, and further decisions will be made after legal procedures are completed.
