Alcaraz aims for third consecutive Indian wells title
  5, March, 2025, 11:08:0:AM

Carlos Alcaraz is focusing on a relaxed approach as he aims to become only the third man to win three straight titles at Indian Wells. The Spaniard, who could face Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals, expressed his desire to enjoy the tournament without dwelling too much on the milestone.

"I will try not to think about it," Alcaraz said ahead of the ATP Masters 1000 event, which kicks off Wednesday alongside the WTA 1000 tournament. "I just want to enjoy it here—practicing, playing—everything feels so easy. My goal is to let things flow and see how the tournament goes."

Alcaraz, seeded second behind Alexander Zverev, comes into the tournament after a quarter-final loss at the Qatar Open. The 20-year-old`s pursuit of a third straight title at Indian Wells would place him in an exclusive group, alongside Djokovic, who accomplished the feat from 2014 to 2016, and Roger Federer from 2004 to 2006.

Despite Jannik Sinner`s absence from the tournament due to a three-month ban after testing positive for Clostebol, Alcaraz remains focused on his own performance. "There are many top players here," he noted. "I`m just focused on playing good tennis."

Alcaraz could face Djokovic in the quarter-finals, with the Serbian holding a 5-3 lead in their head-to-head encounters, including a win at the Australian Open. Djokovic, a five-time Indian Wells champion, will begin his campaign against either Nick Kyrgios or a qualifier in the second round.

Other notable players in the draw include top seed Zverev, who is seeking his first Indian Wells title, American Taylor Fritz, the 2022 champion, and fourth seed Casper Ruud. Russian Daniil Medvedev, the runner-up in the last two years, is seeded fifth.

The tournament will also spotlight 18-year-old Brazilian Joao Fonseca, who made waves by defeating Andre Rublev at the Australian Open and winning his first ATP title in Buenos Aires in February. Fonseca will face Britain`s Jacob Fearnley, who has made a significant rise in the rankings over the past year.
