  7, April, 2025, 11:08:44:AM

Defending champions Abahani Limited advanced into the Super League phase of the Dhaka Premier League on Saturday, thanks to a record-breaking half-century by opener Parvez Hossain Emon and a clinical bowling display led by Mosaddek Hossain.

Abahani dismantled Shinepukur Cricket Club by 10 wickets in a rain-reduced 31-over contest at BKSP.

Shinepuer batted first and were able to score only 88 runs in 25.4 overs. Mosaddek bagged four wickets for only 36 runs, while Ripon Mondol and Rakibul Hasan picked up two wickets each.

Parvez lit up the ground with a 15-ball fifty - the fastest by any Bangladeshi batter in List A cricket.

He broke the previous record of 18 balls set by Farhad Reza in 2019. Parvez remained unbeaten on 61 off just 23 balls, hitting 4 fours and 6 sixes, as Abahani reached the target in just 6.4 overs. Partner Zishan Alam made 17 off 17.

With eight wins in nine matches, Abahani became the first team to confirm their place in the Super League.

In another match in Mirpur, Mohammedan Sporting Club defeated Prime Bank by five wickets to strengthen their position.

Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam starred with 4 for 5, while pacer Ebadot Hossain claimed 3 for 27 as Prime Bank were bowled out for 174 in 32.2 overs.

Shamim Hossain fought a lone battle for Prime Bank with a 61-ball 89.

Mohammedan slipped to 38 for 3 in the chase but skipper Towhid Hridoy (57) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (67*) stitched a 91-run stand to guide the team to victory in 20 overs. Mohammedan now sit second with seven wins in nine games.

In the other match, newcomers Gulshan Cricket Club edged past Dhanmondi SC by two wickets. Dhanmondi posted 258 for 9, with Fazle Mahmud top-scoring with 65. Mehedi Hasan and Asaduzzaman took three wickets each for Gulshan.

In reply, Gulshan stumbled early but Nayeem Islam`s 68 and Khalid Hasan`s 42 guided them home. Gulshan now move up to fourth in the table with five wins from nine matches.
