4-Day Investment Summit Begins in Dhaka

A four-day "Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025" kicks off in Dhaka today, aiming to open doors for global investment in the country. Over 550 investors and business representatives from 50 countries across the world are expected to participate in the event.   

This information was announced by Ashik Chowdhury, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), at a press conference held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Sunday (April 6th).

The organizers stated that this event will create a long-term investment pipeline for Bangladesh. During the summit, five local and foreign investors will be awarded. Additionally, agreements are expected to be signed with several organizations, including the US space research agency NASA.   

Who is Attending the Summit?
Guests at the investment summit will include Baroness Rosie Winterton, a member of the UK`s House of Lords; Sang-Joo Lee, Senior Vice President of multinational company Samsung; and Colin Melville Kennedy Currie, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of clothing brand Giordano International. Furthermore, the President of Excelerate Energy and the Vice President of Pakistan`s Dawood Group are scheduled to participate in the conference. Besides these individuals, representatives from several other organizations are also expected to attend the investment summit.   

BIDA informed that representatives from many companies, including Meta (the parent company of Facebook), Uber, Telenor, and Toyota, will be participating. In addition, several major global venture capital firms are also coming to the summit. These include US-based B-Capital, Malaysia and Hong Kong-based Gobi Partners, Conjunction Capital, and Marco.   

It is learned that the major business investors attending the summit will visit several economic zones outside Dhaka. As part of this, on the first day of the summit, Monday (April 7th), investors will be taken to visit the Korean EPZ located in Anwara, Chattogram, and the National Special Economic Zone (NSEZ) in Mirsarai. Arrangements will also be made to visit the Japanese Economic Zone in Narayanganj on Tuesday (April 8th).   

Regarding this, BIDA Executive Chairman Ashik Chowdhury said, "This year is a year of reform, and we want to bring investors to show them the new Bangladesh. This summit will provide a glimpse of what Bangladesh will be like in 10 years. The world`s perception of Bangladesh will be changed through this summit."

It is noteworthy that the interim government is focusing on increasing investment. As part of this effort, the four-day investment summit is commencing today at the Hotel InterContinental in the capital. The event will showcase the economic reforms before and after the mass uprising to foreign investors. It is expected that Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus will inaugurate the "Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025" on April 9th.
