Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman on Tuesday stated that all 180 million citizens of Bangladesh are "his," emphasizing the importance of serving people with love and respect to earn their cooperation.
“If I can truly honor and love them, they will support me. But nothing is possible without the help of Allah,” he said.
He made the remarks while addressing multiple community meetings and interfaith gatherings in Moulvibazar`s Kulauara upazila, as part of Jamaat’s central mass outreach campaign.
Calling for a society where people are judged by merit rather than identity, Dr. Rahman said, “We want to build a country where every individual is valued for their qualities, regardless of gender, religion, or caste.”
He criticized Bangladesh’s education and employment systems, drawing comparisons with Western countries. “Elsewhere, companies offer job letters in advance based on qualifications. In Bangladesh, education certificates often have no relation to actual competence,” he said, urging for an education system based on respect, values, and job readiness.
Referring to law enforcement, he said, “If there are only 100 police officers for 600,000–700,000 people in a police station, it’s not practical to ensure security. But if even one officer is truly awakened, others won’t need to work as hard.”
Other Jamaat leaders including Sylhet district Ameer Maulana Habibur Rahman, city Ameer Md. Fakhrul Islam, Moulvibazar district Ameer Engr. Sayed Ali, and Secretary Md. Yameer Ali also addressed the gatherings.
Earlier in the day, Dr. Rahman was welcomed at the Kulauara Municipality office by the Municipal Administrator and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Mohiuddin, where he also participated in a tea session.
