BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said the government should have consult the political parties before providing a humanitarian corridor to Myanmar, warning against unilateral decisions that could entangle Bangladesh in conflict.
He made these remarks at a public meeting in Thakurgaon on Monday, April 28.
Explaining the concept of a humanitarian corridor, Fakhrul referenced the Gaza crisis: “There’s a war in Gaza. You can’t go there, but if the UN wants to send food and medicine, a route is created through Jordan or Egypt to reach Gaza.”
He acknowledged the humanitarian need but stressed the gravity of the decision for Bangladesh.
“This is a major decision involving our independence, sovereignty, and the region’s future peace and stability. The government should have consulted all political parties,” he said, criticizing the government’s solo approach.
While affirming BNP’s support for humanitarian aid, Fakhrul cautioned, “It must have the backing of all people. We don’t want to become another Gaza or get involved in war. We don’t want external forces causing chaos here. We’re already facing issues with the Rohingyas.”
