Congestion persists at Ctg Port as container influx continues
  15, June, 2025, 4:04:4:PM

Chattogram Port is facing renewed container congestion, with the latest count on Sunday, June 15, reaching 44,548 TEUs.

Despite a slight reduction in containers within the port, 12 container-carrying ships, holding approximately 12,000 containers, are currently berthed at the outer anchorage.

Additionally, 11 ships are actively loading and unloading containers at the port jetty.

Although port operations have been normal for the past 11 days, the arrival of a significant number of containers from 19 private depots has contributed to the new congestion.

Container movement details

Port data indicates that on June 4, before the Eid-ul-Azha holiday, the port held 36,215 TEUs.

Over the subsequent 11 days:

Imports: 42,795 TEUs of imported containers arrived.

Exports: 42,042 TEUs of export containers were shipped.

From Private Depots: 15,948 TEUs of export containers and 6,625 TEUs of empty containers arrived.

To Private Depots: 9,802 TEUs of imported goods and 5,283 TEUs of empty containers were sent.

Recent activity

In the past 24 hours, the port handled 8,888 TEUs of containers.

Currently, 98 ships, carrying both containers and bulk goods, are at the jetty and outer anchorage, with 55 actively unloading.

For comparison, on June 4, 147 ships were present at the port.

Breakdown of container movements (Last 24 hours):

Arrivals:

5,206 TEUs from ships.

186 TEUs from Dhaka Inland Container Depot.

2,324 TEUs of export containers from off-docks.

837 TEUs of empty containers from off-docks.

Departures:

3,682 TEUs shipped out.

89 TEUs sent to Dhaka ICD.

1,211 TEUs of imported goods sent to off-docks.

992 TEUs of empty containers sent to off-docks.

437 TEUs of imported goods delivered directly to importers on-site.

788 TEUs of container goods unloaded within the port.

The increased flow of containers from private depots has significantly contributed to the congestion, despite ongoing efforts to manage port operations efficiently.
