Upcoming polls to set national, global benchmarks: Home Adviser
  2, February, 2026, 7:43:43:PM

Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury expressed optimism that the upcoming national elections, scheduled for February 12, would set a benchmark appreciated both nationally and internationally.

He urged all stakeholders to remain vigilant so that no mistakes undermine public trust or the country’s image.

Speaking as the chief guest at a law and order exchange meeting at the Barisal District Shilpakala Academy on Monday, the Home Adviser highlighted the importance of a free, fair and peaceful election.

“If conducted properly, these elections can demonstrate Bangladesh’s commitment to democracy and transparency on both national and global platforms,” he said.

Lt Gen (Retd) Chowdhury emphasised the professionalism of law enforcement and election officials before, during, and after Election Day to ensure a safe and festive voting environment.

He called for coordinated efforts among the Election Commission, returning officers, intelligence agencies, police, armed forces, RAB, BGB, Ansar-VDP, Coast Guard, judicial and mobile courts, and civil administration.

The Home Adviser also noted that sensitive polling stations would receive additional forces and that modern monitoring tools, including body-worn cameras, CCTV, drones and the Election Security App-2026, would be used to maintain security and transparency.

“The world will be watching,” he added. “Our responsibility is to conduct an election that sets a new benchmark, showcasing Bangladesh’s dedication to democracy, fairness and public trust.”

The meeting was organised by the Barisal divisional administration to prepare for the smooth conduct of the 13th national parliament election and referendum. Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Nasimul Ghani presided over the event, while other senior officials from police, armed forces, and civil administration attended.
