China Issues Strong Warning Over Japan’s “New Militarism”
  29, April, 2026, 11:39:48:PM

International: All peace-loving nations around the world must remain highly vigilant and firmly oppose Japan’s reckless pursuit of “new militarism,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Tuesday, April 28.

During the briefing, a journalist referred to recent remarks by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who stated at a public event that revising Japan’s “three security documents” was a crucial task tied to the nation’s future. Drawing lessons from the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, she emphasized the need to prepare for “new forms of warfare” and for “prolonged conflicts.” Her remarks also highlighted the importance of strengthening maritime, cyber, and economic security.

Responding to the issue, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said the Takaichi administration has recently accelerated the expansion of Japan’s military-industrial sector and openly declared preparations for “protracted warfare.” He noted that Japan had historically initiated wars in the past and accused Tokyo of once again creating so-called regional tensions.

“Is Japan attempting to repeat the mistakes of history?” the spokesperson questioned, adding that the country’s rapid push toward “remilitarization” is becoming a renewed source of concern and instability in East Asia.

Lin Jian further noted that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the Tokyo Trials. He said that instead of deeply reflecting on and repenting for its past aggression during such a significant year, Japan is once again attempting to expand its military influence — something the international community, he stressed, would never accept.
