Beijing Issues Strong Message on Taiwan’s Participation in World Health Assembly
  13, May, 2026, 3:13:32:AM

International Desk: On May 11 (Monday), Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun held a regular press briefing in Beijing. During the session, a journalist asked for China’s position regarding reports that Taiwan has not received an invitation to the upcoming 79th World Health Assembly (WHA), scheduled to begin on May 18.

In response, Guo Jiakun reiterated that there is only one China in the world and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China. He stated that the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing all of China. China’s position on Taiwan’s participation in international organizations, including the World Health Organization, remains consistent and clear—strict adherence to the One-China principle.

He further noted that, in order to uphold the One-China principle and safeguard the authority of relevant UN General Assembly resolutions and the World Health Assembly, China has decided not to allow Taiwan’s participation in this year’s WHA. He also warned that any attempt to challenge the One-China principle or use the “Taiwan card” for political purposes would ultimately fail.
