KCC administrator inspects sluice gate repair to prevent waterlogging
  12, July, 2026, 9:00:33:PM

(BSS) - Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju today inspected the progress of repair work on the Alutala Sluice Gate, locally known as "Dosh Gate", at Mathabhanga as part of efforts to prevent waterlogging in the city.

The old sluice gate has become dilapidated over the years. Emergency repair work was undertaken after tidal water recently entered through one of its damaged gates, raising concerns over flooding in nearby areas.

During the inspection, the KCC administrator said water had already receded from most areas of the city that experienced waterlogging following three consecutive days of heavy rainfall.

However, he cautioned that forecasts indicate the possibility of more intense rain in the coming days.

To address the situation, Manju said KCC has formed three monitoring committees to prevent waterlogging.

He added that officials and staff are working to remove obstructions from drains and canals to improve water flow across the city.

The administrator stressed the need to renovate all sluice gates in phases and expressed hope that repairs to the damaged gate would be completed within the next four days.

He also inspected drainage flow and waste management activities in Matiakhali and Labonchara areas under Wards 30 and 31, in addition to the Dosh Gate site.

Among others, KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed, Chief Engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan, Conservancy Officer Md. Ahiduzzaman Khan, Ward Executive Officer Sheikh Shafiqul Hasan Didar, Assistant Engineer Md. Obaidullah Khan, Sub-Assistant Mechanical Engineer Md. Selimul Azad and local dignitaries were present during the visit.
