Xi Jinping-Mirziyoyev Meeting in Bishkek: China and Uzbekistan Resolve to Build a New “Golden Decade” in Bilateral Relations
  2, September, 2026, 9:34:26:AM

International: Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Bishkek on the afternoon of August 31, Kyrgyzstan time, on the sidelines of the 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.

During the meeting, Xi Jinping said that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Uzbekistan. Under the joint guidance of the leaders of the two countries, bilateral relations have continued to develop, cooperation in various fields has produced fruitful results, and significant progress has been made in building a China-Uzbekistan community with shared goals. China is willing to work with Uzbekistan to consolidate strategic mutual trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and jointly create a new “golden decade” in China-Uzbekistan relations.

Xi Jinping stressed that regardless of how the international situation changes, China’s commitment to deepening China-Uzbekistan friendship will remain unwavering. China, as always, will support Uzbekistan in pursuing a development path suited to its own national conditions.

He said that high-quality progress should be achieved in the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, while cooperation should be expanded in areas such as artificial intelligence and desertification control. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining active momentum in local-level exchanges between the two countries, strengthening efforts to establish cultural centers in each other’s countries, and expanding cooperation in education, poverty reduction and other areas to encourage people-to-people exchanges.

As founding members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, China and Uzbekistan should jointly help implement the outcomes of the Tianjin Summit and advance regional development and prosperity, Xi Jinping said.

Mirziyoyev extended his sincere congratulations on China’s remarkable development achievements under the leadership of President Xi Jinping. He said Uzbekistan has full confidence in the bright future of Chinese-style modernization.

Uzbekistan and China share a deep friendship and have always understood and supported each other. President Xi Jinping’s vision and wisdom have opened up broad prospects for Uzbekistan-China relations and provided guidance for the extensive development of cooperation across various fields, he said.

Mirziyoyev said Uzbekistan is committed to developing relations with China, and this commitment will not change due to changes in the international situation. Uzbekistan wishes to deepen political mutual trust with China, expand trade and investment, increase cooperation in agriculture, transportation, energy, mining, science and technology and other fields, and promote cultural exchanges.

He further said that Uzbekistan is willing to jointly fight against the “three evil forces” and work for greater development of bilateral relations. Uzbekistan firmly adheres to the one-China principle, highly recognizes the four global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping, and is willing to work with China to advance the development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and safeguard international fairness and justice.

Chinese officials Cai Qi, Wang Yi and others attended the meeting.
