Family Wellbeing Centres to replace old community clinics at union level: Sakhawat
  24, October, 2026, 9:51:11:PM

(BSS) - Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain today said the government will gradually transform old community clinics into Family Wellbeing Centres at the union level across the country.

"Doctors will be appointed at these centres and initiatives will be taken to ensure adequate supplies of necessary medicines to provide healthcare services locally," he said.

The minister made the remarks while talking to journalists after inspecting Mymensingh Medical College Hospital here.

He said initiatives are being taken to supply radiotherapy machines for cancer treatment, procure five robotic surgery machines and recruit 2,500 nurses across the country.

"Plans have also been taken to increase the rate of normal deliveries through the recruitment of midwives and expand healthcare services at the union level," Sakhawat added.

During the inspection, the minister visited different wards of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital and enquired about the condition of patients.

He said the incumbent government is working to restore momentum in the health sector by eliminating mismanagement and plundering that had prevailed over the past 17 years.

Mymensingh Medical College Hospital Director Brigadier General Md Zakir Hossain, Mymensingh Development Authority Chairman Motahar Hossain Talukder, Divisional Health Director Dr Pradip Kumar Saha, Deputy Commissioner Md Saifur Rahman and Superintendent of Police Mohammad Kamrul Hasan, among others, were present during the visit.
