International Desk : A powerful earthquake struck a remote area of Tibet in China on Tuesday, killing at least 53 people. The earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.8, caused many houses to collapse, according to reports from Chinese state media.
The tremor was felt in Kathmandu, the capital of neighboring Nepal. China`s Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) reported that the earthquake occurred at 9:05 AM local time, with its epicenter in Dingri County near the Nepal border.
While CENC reported the earthquake`s magnitude as 6.8, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) stated it was 7.1 on the Richter scale.
China`s state broadcaster CCTV reported that strong tremors were felt in Dingri County and surrounding areas, with several buildings near the epicenter collapsing.
