A two-month-and-seven-day-old baby boy, who was stolen from the Upazila Health Complex in Begumganj in Noakhali, has been rescued by RAB-11 after 10 hours.
The child was rescued from a house adjacent to a shop at Mirwareshpur union of the upazila around 10 pm on Saturday (March 8).
Earlier, the theft took place in front of the hospital`s ticket counter around 12 pm on the same day.
The matter was confirmed by Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Mithun Kumar Kundu, Company Commander (Acting) of RAB-11, CPC-3 Noakhali.
The mother of the stolen newborn is Jannatul Ferdous, 19, daughter of Liton Mia, a resident of the Chowkidar Bari under Mirwarishpur union of the upazila.
According to police and locals, Jannatul Ferdous came to the upazila health complex with her newborn baby to a doctor. When her mother Tajnahar Begum went to a doctor at eye department, Jannatul Ferdous stood in the queue with her baby to buy a ticket. At that time, a 45-year-old unknown woman wearing a black burqa (who had a 6/7-year-old daughter with her) took the baby from Jannatul Ferdous and asked her to buy a ticket. Jannatul Ferdous, in an innocent spirit, put her baby in the stranger`s lap and stood in the queue to buy a ticket. After buying a ticket, she searched around and did not see the woman and her baby, but did not find them and informed the police station later.
