Trial of genocide perpetrators must be served in this land: CA
  25, March, 2025, 11:07:33:PM

The perpetrators responsible for genocide, those who indiscriminately killed innocent people, and those who have already been recognized as murderers on the global stage will be brought to justice in this country, assured Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

He stated that Sheikh Hasina has surpassed all historical instances of brutality in her attempt to cling to power. Reading the United Nations report has sent chills down everyone’s spine, he said. He questioned how a prime minister could order the killing of unarmed citizens and then instruct the disposal of their bodies to cover up the crimes. According to him, the UN report has explicitly revealed that Sheikh Hasina’s regime has exceeded all known forms of cruelty in its desperate attempt to retain power.

Addressing the nation on Tuesday, March 25, on the occasion of Independence Day and Eid-ul-Fitr, Dr. Yunus reiterated his commitment to ensuring justice for victims of state-led violence.

The Chief Adviser mentioned that UN Secretary-General António Guterres recently visited Bangladesh. During the visit, Dr. Yunus took him to the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, where they joined 100,000 Rohingya children, teenagers, women, and men for Iftar. He announced that, in response to Bangladesh’s proposal, a separate session on the Rohingya crisis is being prepared for the upcoming UN General Assembly in September. Malaysia and Finland have expressed their willingness to co-host this conference. Additionally, he has invited former acting Australian Prime Minister Julie Bishop to play a key role in the session, a proposal she has accepted.

During his visit, the UN Secretary-General also held separate meetings with members of the National Consensus Commission, political leaders, and young representatives. Dr. Yunus stated that in these meetings, all participants conveyed their vision for a "New Bangladesh" to the Secretary-General.

He further emphasized that the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has documented the atrocities committed by the former regime. The report details how the Awami League government and its affiliates unleashed a brutal crackdown on students, workers, and citizens between July and August last year.

The report explicitly states that Sheikh Hasina personally directed security forces to open fire on protesters. The former government, the Awami League, and its allied groups systematically orchestrated severe human rights violations. The UN Human Rights report estimates that approximately 1,400 people were killed during the protests, including around 13 percent children. Women who participated in the demonstrations—referred to as the "July Daughters"—were reportedly targeted, with many subjected to violence, including sexual assault by security forces and Awami League supporters.

Dr. Yunus welcomed the UN Human Rights Office’s findings, affirming that the interim government is carefully considering its recommendations.

Criticizing past restrictions on internet access, he announced that with the introduction of Starlink, no future government will have the ability to suppress information by shutting down internet services. He explained that Starlink’s high-speed, low-cost internet service will bring a digital revolution to Bangladesh. Once operational, it will ensure that every village, island, and remote mountainous region has access to high-speed internet.

He disclosed that he recently held discussions with Elon Musk, founder of Starlink and CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, to expedite the launch of Starlink operations in Bangladesh. Company representatives are currently making arrangements to begin their services, with commercial agreements expected to be finalized within the next three months.

Dr. Yunus reiterated that Starlink`s introduction will make global-quality education, healthcare, and economic opportunities accessible to every citizen, regardless of their location. The next generation will have the opportunity to grow as global citizens even if they reside in the most remote areas of the country.

He also announced the formulation of the "Youth Entrepreneurship Policy 2025," aimed at empowering young men and women as key drivers of social, economic, and environmental progress. The policy will support the development of successful entrepreneurs as part of efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The contributions of young entrepreneurs to the country’s economic and social landscape will be formally recognized.

Commenting on the spread of misinformation, Dr. Yunus described it as the primary weapon of the defeated forces resisting the July revolution. Since the interim government assumed power, misinformation and fake news have flooded mainstream and social media, attempting to destabilize the country. False narratives are being systematically created using misleading images and edited visuals to deceive the public. As the election draws closer, such propaganda is expected to intensify.

To counter this, the government has sought the assistance of the United Nations in tackling misinformation. The UN Secretary-General has assured his cooperation in this effort.

The Chief Adviser reminded the nation that the first phase of the July revolution has been successfully completed, paving the way for the second phase. He urged citizens to remain vigilant, as misinformation remains the strongest weapon of the forces resisting change. He cautioned people to investigate the sources of any rumors they encounter, as highly skilled strategists and substantial financial resources are fueling these campaigns to undermine the revolution.

He concluded by emphasizing the importance of national unity, warning that opposing forces are desperately trying to break this unity using sophisticated tactics. Without realizing it, people may fall into their trap. He called for collective awareness and solidarity to thwart misinformation and prevent the conspiracies of exiled adversaries from succeeding.
