A robbery incident has occurred again on a moving passenger bus named "Itihas Paribahan" at Savar upazila in the capital.
The incident took place on Friday afternoon at Bank Town area on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway.
In connection with the incident, a passenger named Tuni has filed a case with Savar Model Police Station.
Earlier, locals had detained the bus driver and conductor and handed them over to the police.
The detained individuals are bus driver Rajab Ali, 30, and conductor Emdadul Haque, 40.
Additionally, the bus involved in the robbery has also been seized.
According to witnesses and the case statement, the passenger bus of Itihas Paribahan, which had departed from Chandra in Gazipur and was heading towards Mirpur in the capital, reached at Karnapara Bridge area on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway when the driver and four other individuals, armed with local weapons, hijacked the bus and looted cash, mobile phones, gold jewelry, and other valuables from the passengers.
The robbers then stopped the bus at Rajfulbaria area at Savar and fled.
Passenger Suman Sarkar said, "I boarded the bus at Chandra. When the bus reached Ulail area, several people with knives held the passengers hostage. They took 35,000 taka from me and also looted gold jewelry and other valuables from the other passengers before fleeing."
However, the detained bus driver Rajab Ali stated, "A few people who boarded the bus suddenly took out weapons and held the passengers hostage to loot the goods. Afterward, angry passengers vandalized the bus. At that time, I and the conductor, Emdadul, hid on the roadside."
Additional Superintendent of Police (Savar Circle) Shahinur Kabir, said, "We have received a written complaint regarding the robbery on the bus. We have started a thorough investigation and hope to bring the culprits under law very soon."
He also mentioned that the driver and conductor have been detained for preliminary interrogation.
