Three-vehicle collision leaves 3 Jamaat men dead, 40 hurt in Rajshahi

Three Jamaat-e-Islami men were killed and at least 40 injured in collision between three vehicles in Rajshahi city`s Khorkhori area around 12AM on Monday.

The deceased were identified as Jewel Ahmed, 40, Nasim Uddin, 45, and Mizanur Rahman, 32.

The injured are currently undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

Rajshahi Metropolitan Jamaat`s former organising secretary Jashim Uddin said 90 party leaders, activists and supporters from Ranihati union under Chapainawabganj`s Sadar upazila were going to Pirojpur to visit the graves of late Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi and other party leaders with two buses. At about 12:30AM, a truck collided head-on with one of the buses at Khorkhori area and the bus fell into a roadside ditch. Later the truck hit another bus.

Then both the bus and the truck got twisted.

Getting information police and Fire Service personnel with the help of local residents rescued the injured passengers.

Of the injured one succumbed to his injuries on arrival of the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, while another two declared dead approximately 2:30AM, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police`s Additional Deputy Commissioner Sabina Yasmin confirmed.
