The National Citizen Party (NCP) has launched a month-long July march programme by visiting the grave of martyr Abu Sayed on the anniversary of the July mass uprising.
NCP leaders paid homage at Abu Sayed’s grave in Babonpur village, Pirganj Upazila, Rangpur, around 10:30 am on Tuesday (1 July). Afterwards, they met with his family members.
Among those present were NCP convener Nahid Islam, member secretary Akhtar Hossain, chief organizer of the southern region Hasnat Abdullah, chief organizer of the northern region Sarjis Alam, senior joint secretary Dr. Tasnim Zara, Samanta Sharmin, joint chief organizer Abu Saeed Leon, along with other central and local leaders and activists.
Nahid Islam stated that one year ago on 1 July, they began a democratic movement under the banner of an anti-discrimination student movement, joined by thousands of students and people, including Abu Sayed. On 16 July, following Abu Sayed’s death, the movement transformed into a mass uprising that ultimately led to the fall of the autocratic government.
He further said that building a new Bangladesh requires justice, reform, and the drafting of a new constitution through Constituent Assembly elections. The movement was not aimed at changing a single party or government; rather, the uprising sought to overthrow the fascist system. They have demanded the replacement of the fascist regime and a new arrangement for building the country.
Nahid Islam warned that if anyone tries to delay or obstruct the July declaration, they are ready to mobilize students and the public back to the streets if necessary.
The NCP announced the month-long programme titled “July March to Build the Nation,” which will run from 1 to 30 July.
Throughout the month-long march, the party will carry out a series of programmes.
After visiting Abu Sayed’s grave, the march will proceed through Palashbari, Gaibandha, Sundarganj, Sadullapur, and enter Rangpur.
Later, the marchers will visit the site where Abu Sayed was shot, then hold a rally at Shahid Minar near Shapla Chattar, Jahaj Company Mor, and Payra Chattar in Rangpur.
The day’s activities will conclude at the Checkpost after passing through DC Mor and the Medical College Hospital.
