7 Beggars Rehabilitated in Manikganj

Kamrul Hasan : Seven beggars in Singair upazila of Manikganj have been rehabilitated, leaving behind begging to start a new chapter of self-reliance.

On Wednesday (September 17), six of them received six shop spaces and another was provided with a battery-run autorickshaw at the Bhumdakkhin Bazar area. Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Divisional Commissioner of Dhaka, handed over the shop keys and the autorickshaw to the beneficiaries.

The rehabilitated individuals are Fatema Begum of Noyadanggi village, Somser Ali of Uttar Jamsha, Saleha Khatun of Bhumdakkhin, Azmot Ali of Borobaka, Sojal Mia of Dokkhin Jaila, Momen Begum of Paragram, and Gonai Bibi of Purbo Bhakum. According to the upazila administration, all of them had been engaged in begging.

The event was attended by Manikganj Deputy Commissioner Dr. Manowar Hossain Molla, Abdul Baten, Deputy Director of the Department of Social Services, Singair Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Kamrul Hasan Sohag, local representatives, and officials from the Department of Social Services.

Speaking on the occasion, Divisional Commissioner Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury said, “Begging is a social disease. The government is working to rehabilitate beggars by bringing them under employment opportunities. Through this initiative, they will be able to become self-reliant and live with dignity in society.”
