A truck driver and his helper were killed when their watermelon-laden truck lost control and crashed into a tree in Madhukhali upazila of Faridpur.

The accident occurred at around 3:15 am on Tuesday in Ghopaghap area under ??Bagat union in the upazila on the Dhaka-Khulna highway.

The dead were truck driver Idris Ali, 30, a resident of Keshabpur upazila in Jashore, and helper Haider Ali, 32, of the same area.

According to Fire Service and locals, a truck carrying watermelons from Dhaka to Jashore lost control at night and overturned after hitting a tree on the side of the road. The truck driver and the helper died on the spot.

Madhukhali Fire Service Station Officer Rashedul Alam said that on information, they went to the spot and recovered the bodies. Later, the bodies were handed over to the Highway Police.

Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Salauddin Chowdhury said the bodies have been kept at Madhukhali Upazila Health Complex. The relatives of the deceased have been informed.
