| Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with Malick Ndiaye, Speaker of Senegal’s National Assembly, in Beijing on 27 January.
During the meeting, Han Zheng said that Senegal is an important partner for China in Africa. In recent years, Chinese President Xi Jinping has held meetings with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko during their respective visits to China, providing strategic guidance for advancing the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries and achieving new development outcomes.
Han expressed China’s sincere appreciation for Senegal’s understanding and support on issues related to Taiwan, human rights, Xinjiang, and other core concerns. He said China is willing to work closely with Senegal to further strengthen mutual political trust, deepen people-to-people exchanges and development cooperation, enhance alignment of development strategies, promote mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples, and strengthen communication and coordination on international and regional affairs.
Speaker Ndiaye stated that Senegal firmly adheres to the one-China policy. He spoke highly of President Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road Initiative as well as the four Global Initiatives, and expressed Senegal’s willingness to work with China to jointly promote the development of China–Africa relations. He also noted Senegal’s readiness to deepen pragmatic cooperation with China in areas such as infrastructure development and smart transportation.
