International Desk : A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck northern Iran, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), with international news outlets AFP and Daily Express reporting on the tremor.
However, major Iranian news sources have reported varying magnitudes, with some stating 5.2 and others 5.5. Concurrently, local and regional media outlets reported an Israeli missile strike in Iran`s southwestern region.
Regarding this, Israeli news outlet Ynetnews.com reported an attack on an Iranian air defense facility named `Magar` in the southwestern Behmai province.
Reports from AFP and Daily Express indicate that the earthquake, which occurred near the Fordow nuclear facility in Iran`s Qom province, has sparked widespread speculation on social media. An Iranian blogger`s Telegram channel hinted that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) might have been "testing" something.
The reports further state that the Iranian earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles) and approximately 37 kilometers (23 miles) southwest of Iran`s Semnan city, with a magnitude of 5.1.
The geological survey agency confirmed the 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck near the Fordow nuclear facility in Iran`s Qom province. However, Iran`s Tasnim news agency reported the earthquake`s magnitude as 5.2.
The earthquake`s effects reached the capital Tehran. The epicenter was the city of Semnan, approximately 145 miles east of Tehran. The intensity of the tremor was mild, and no damage has been reported so far.
Meanwhile, U.S. news outlet Mirror US stated that the rumors suggesting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) might have been "testing" something in connection with the earthquake are yet to be confirmed.
