International Desk : The relentless Israeli offensive in the besieged Gaza Strip continues to claim lives, with another 72 Palestinians, including those awaiting food aid, killed in the past 24 hours.
Israel`s stated goal is to dismantle Hamas and rescue hostages, but the ongoing air and ground operations, coupled with a deepening famine, have turned Gaza into "a living hell" for its residents, leaving no safe haven.
Al Jazeera reported on Sunday, June 29, that medical sources in Gaza confirmed at least 47 deaths in Gaza City and its northern areas alone since Sunday morning due to Israeli attacks.
Mu`taz Al-Kalhout, an Al Jazeera journalist in Gaza City, described a chaotic scene at Al-Ahli Hospital in North Gaza. "There`s a massive influx of injured people, many of them children, following Israeli airstrikes in the Zeitoun, Sabra, and Al-Zawiya market areas," he said. "There aren`t enough beds or medical supplies; many are lying on the floor. The hospital is in a critical state."
Al-Kalhout also reported that Israel is dropping leaflets in eastern Gaza City, urging civilians to move south, only to follow these warnings with heavy bombardments, leading to a rising number of casualties.
Among those killed on Sunday were at least five Palestinians who were seeking assistance at food distribution centers north of Rafah in the southern region. These centers are currently operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), an organization that has faced widespread criticism but is supported by the United States and Israel.
According to the Gaza government`s media office, since GHF began partially distributing aid in late May, Israeli forces have frequently targeted people waiting near these centers. This has resulted in over 580 Palestinian deaths and more than 4,000 injuries.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is worsening, with famine becoming a significant concern. Children and newborns are dying regularly due to malnutrition.
Christy Black, an Australian volunteer nurse working at a hospital in Gaza City, stated, "In just the last few days, several children in Gaza City have died from malnutrition. We`re seeing children who are nine or ten years old but look like two-year-olds." She added that respiratory illnesses among children are also increasing due to dust and toxic gases from the bombings.
