Three passengers of an auto-rickshaw were killed and four others injured after being hit by a truck in Sirajganj`s Raiganj upazila on Saturday.

The accident occurred in the evening in front of Bhuiyagati Rural Electricity Substation intersection on the Dhaka-Bogura highway.

The dead were Sushanta Kumar Das, 55, a resident of Ghurka Daspara village under Salanga upazila in the district, Merajul Islam, 12, son of late Abdur Razzak of Deghalbari village under Ullapara upazila, and Motaleb, 30, son of Mayj Uddin of Raiganj.

Hatikumrul Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rouf said that the battery-powered auto-rickshaw carrying passengers was heading towards Ghurka from Bhuiyagati. When the van reached the spot, it was hit by a truck carrying chickens that had left Dhaka. Two passengers died on the spot. Another person died while undergoing treatment in the hospital that night.

The OC also said that the body of the deceased has been recovered. Although the truck involved in the accident has been seized, its driver and helper have fled.
