A school teacher was killed and three others were injured in a road accident involving a night coach and an autorickshaw at Gangachara upazila in Rangpur on Saturday night.
The accident occurred on Saturday night around 8 PM in Moulvibazar area of the upazila.
The deceased, identified as Dilip Mahanta, 52, was a resident of Babupara village in Kolkond union of the upazila. He served as an assistant teacher at Kolkond Government Primary School.
Meanwhile, the identities of the injured passengers are yet to be ascertained.
According to eyewitnesses and Fire Service sources, a battery-powered autorickshaw carrying three passengers was traveling toward Gangachara bazaar from Rangpur city. Simultaneously, a night coach heading to Dhaka collided with the autorickshaw in Moulvibazar area. The impact caused Dilip to be thrown directly in front of the bus`s rear wheels, killing him instantly.
The autorickshaw driver and two other passengers sustained severe injuries. Locals rushed them to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Confirming the incident, Gangachara Model Police Station officer-in-charge Al Emran stated, "We arrived at the scene promptly, recovered the body and transported it to Gangachara Health Complex. The investigation is ongoing."
