Online Report : A total of 14 Rohingya nationals were pushed into Bangladesh by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) through Lalakhal border area under Jaintapur upazila in Sylhet.
The incident occurred around 8:00 PM on Thursday when members of BGB-19 Battalion stationed at Zakiganj detained the group after spotting them approximately 50 yards inside Bangladeshi territory near border pillar 1301, adjacent to India’s Jaliyakhola BSF camp.
According to BGB, the group includes four men, four women, and six children—three boys and three girls. During initial questioning, the detainees identified themselves as displaced citizens of Myanmar’s Rakhine State.
“The BGB remains alert at all times to protect Bangladesh’s border and sovereignty,” said Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Zubayer Anwar, commanding officer of the 19 BGB Battalion. “We’ve intensified our patrols in vulnerable areas to prevent such unauthorized crossings and maintain regular communication with Indian border forces.”
He further confirmed that the identities of the individuals are being verified and that they have been handed over to local police for further legal processing.
This latest incident adds to growing concerns over cross-border movements of Rohingyas, many of whom continue to seek refuge amid ongoing persecution and statelessness.
Bangladesh, already hosting over a million Rohingya refugees, has reiterated its position against further influxes without regional cooperation and international accountability.
